This fabric is produced from Eri, a wild silk found in north east India. Eri is an integral part of the Assamese culture is also known as âAhimsaâ silk because it is a vegan silk, i.e. , the silk worms are not killed in the process of the preparation of the yarn.
Eri Silk comes from the worm Samia cynthia ricini, found in North East of India and some parts of China and Japan.
Eri Silk has isothermal qualities - cool in summer and warm in winter. Perfect for sensitive skin because of its anti-fungal and anti-allergen properties.
The name Eri is derived from the Assamese word âeraâ, which means castor as the silkworm feeds on castor plants. The wooly silk is often referred to as the Ahimsa silk or the fabric of peace as the process does not involve the killing of the silk worm. Moths leave the cocoon as soon as it is ready to be spun.
