How To Create Complementary Products Around Technology Products Using Handicrafts And Handmade Processes

Feb 28, 2022 | Kshitij Gangurde

Bidriware is a metal handicraft that originated in Bidar, Karnataka. The term “Bidriware'' originates from the township of Bidar, which is still the chief centre of the unique metal ware. It is a form of encrusted metal ware, where one metal is inlaid onto another. Bidri products include a diverse range of objects including hukka bases, bowls, boxes, candle stands, trays, jewellery and buttons.

The craft contains complicated sequences of metal inlay on a zinc and tin alloy base. Bidri has its roots in the Persian technique of inlaying gold and silver on steel or copper. It travelled from Iran to Ajmer in Rajasthan in the 13th century AD, and from there to Bijapur and flourished during the reign of the Deccan Sultanate.

The art is mainly practised in Bidar in Karnataka and Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. Apart from these, it is also practised in Aurangabad district in the state of Maharashtra and Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. The basic metal used for Bidri is the alloy of zinc and copper mixed in the proportion of 16:1. The metal used is a blackened alloy of zinc and copper inlaid with thin sheets or wires of pure silver.

Other materials used are ordinary soil, castor oil, resin, lead/ zinc, solution of copper sulphate, pure silver wire or sheets for inlay, sal ammoniac for oxidation and vegetable oil.

LAPTOP STAND

Everyone appreciates the freedom of working on a laptop—it’s easy to stay productive whether you’re at your desk, the co!ee shop, or the conference room. But when it comes to ergonomics, a laptop isn’t the greatest choice since you can’t adjust the height of the keyboard and screen separately. As a result, people tend to hunch over when working on a laptop, which can lead to muscle strain and pain in the upper back, neck, shoulders, hands, wrists, and arms.An ergonomic laptop stand can help you position the angle of your laptop so you can reduce screen glare, which can lead to eye strain and

headaches.

Using a laptop stand to keep the laptop above your desk surface or lap will help keep it cooler. Your laptop's performance can su!er if it gets too hot. These are the reasons why people use laptop stands while using a laptop.

Here is a concept that uses the Handicraft of Bidriware to make laptop stands. This laptop stand when not in use, can be used in another way to store workspace essentials such as books, files, papers, etc.

CORK RECYCLING

The process of creating corks is an environmentally friendly, non polluted one so continue the link by recycling your wine corks and put them to better use instead of increasing our daily waste amount. With more than 30 billion bottles worth of wine consumed worldwide every year, the single corks add up quickly. This cork is recycled and used to create various products by companies such as ReCork,

CorkClub, etc. Cork's elasticity combined with its near-impermeability makes it

suitable as a material for bottle stoppers, especially for wine bottles. Cork stoppers represent about 60% of all cork based production. Its elastic property makes it suitable to convert into any desired shape.

USAGE OF A COMPUTER MOUSE

Keyboarding and mousing may not be considered strenuous activities, but if done incorrectly over  time, they can damage the wrist and hand as surely as a nasty fall onto concrete. O"ce workers  can spend eight or more hours keyboarding every day and, unfortunately, many of them are  doing it wrong. Others spend less time at the computer but they can develop some degree of  injury as well.

A common misconception many have is that mouse use causes carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).  However, evidence for a direct connection between the two is minimal. The reality is that mouse  misuse causes CTS. And most people don’t know that it is very preventable.

To avoid injuries while using a mouse or a keyboard, following are the precautions recommended  by experts-

•The back of the wrists should be flat or only slightly bent back.

•Don’t rest your arms on chair arm rests while keyboarding; adjust or remove them if necessary.

•The mouse should be just to the side of the keyboard so that the elbow does not have to leave  the side of the body to reach for it.

•Also, the hand should remain below the elbow, and no pressure should be placed on the wrist  while using the mouse.

•Get rid of the gel pad.

•There should be only light pressure between the mid-palm of the hand and the mouse, and none  on the wrist.

There are various mouse designed in a way to reduce the chances of wrist injuries, but according to various reviews the users haven’t felt the pain in their arms/ wrist but have pain in their thumbs or the lower palm.

RECYCLED FABRIC

Recycling has always been considered an environmentally friendly practice. A recycled  fabric is no less sustainable. One can easily come across recycled fabric in the  market. They are made from existing garments that were otherwise destined to be  disposed of. The ones people give to charity are usually recycled. They do not lead to  wastage of the existing clothes even if they are no longer wanted by their owners.

Propagators of sustainability and eco-friendly practices advise in favour of recycled  textiles and garments. One is educated to resort to the use of recycled clothes.  Sustainability is usually summed up into three parts - reduce, reuse, and recycle!  Recycling means that one is making the fabric to survive despite it being discarded.  Besides, it is an environmentally friendly tactic to manufacture clothes, as well.

It has been agreed upon that recycled fibres consume less energy in order to  produce a fabric. Recycled polyester consumes 33 percent to 53 percent less energy  in comparison to the normal polyester used for manufacturing clothes. Research  indicates that almost 85 percent of the climatic changes are a result of the energy  use on the surface of the Earth. Reducing energy consumption is beneficial to the  environment.

iPad ACCESSORIES

While using an iPad there are other accessories that the users have to  carry along with themselves. These accessories might include the  charging adapter, a keyboard, an Apple Pencil, Apple AirPods, etc.  Keeping these in a bag makes it difficult for the user to find and use it  when required. The users need a bag or a kit to store all the iPad  accessories together in order to have easy access to it whenever required.
