6
ways to keep fresh and focused while working from home!

Working
from home has become the norm for a lot of us currently, and while it has its
benefits, there is a tendency to slip into bad habits. Let’s look at a couple
of ways we can try and stay fit and focused, to maximise our productivity and
to stop our home-space and workspace from becoming too intertwined and
uncomfortable.
1.
Take Breaks!
Knowing
when to take breaks is just as important as taking them! Do what works best for
you, but perhaps be more structured with your breaks in order to see them take
full effect. Perhaps after an hour of solid work, a ten-minute break will be
the best move. But if you feel as though you are making some good progress, and
want to continue past an hour, go ahead and do so! Just remember to not
overwork yourself, and a ten-minute break every now and again can work wonders
for your focus and productivity.
2.
Snacks for energy!
It’s
important to stay energised while working, and a caffeine-only diet may not be
the wisest choice for keeping your energy levels consistent. Have a couple of
healthy snacks at hand while you work, so you don’t have to go looking for food
when you could be at your desk working. Small and easy snacks are recommended,
so you can spend less time eating and more time getting stuff done!
3. Stretch City!
Stretching
is vital as a stay-at-home small business owner who doesn’t get to leave the
house too often while working. Taking a short 5-minute stretch break once an
hour can be great for keeping your body limber and ready for anything. It’s
also very important to stretch your hand and arm muscles and joints, to best
avoid CTS from constant mouse and keyboard use. Keep those wrists in good
shape, and you will thank yourself later down the line.
4. Go for a walk!
This
is a great way to keep your mind less busy and overwhelmed while working from
home. I would recommend only doing this once per workday in order to not waste
too much time, but when you are feeling stuck or overwhelmed with work, a walk
can be a great way to restart your mental battery. You’ll come back refreshed
and ready to tackle whatever hurdles you have ahead of you.
5. Keep a schedule
Running
a small business from home can come with many tasks that if piled up, can lead
to feelings of being overwhelmed or swamped, unsure of what to tackle first. If
we can build a schedule, we can avoid these feelings of being overwhelmed, or
not knowing where to start. Keep a small schedule, tailored to you and your
particular ways of working, in order to stay productive and focused!
6. If you are going to
procrastinate, procrastinate right!
I would say the biggest issue
as a small business owner working from home is staying on task! We aren’t all
used to working from the comfort of our own home, so it is understandable that
we get distracted by things easily. The internet can be very distracting, but
we can actually utilise this distraction in a productive manner! For example,
if you are working in the textile industry, perhaps you can positively
procrastinate by watching a YouTube video about the industry. Use your downtime
wisely, and you will be an unstoppable force of productivity!
